Have you been thinking if now is a good time to start a travel blog?
Ever wonder what it would be like to be a published author?
Are you already sharing vacation photos on Facebook & Instagram?
Wish you could have a bit more cash in your wallet for upcoming trips?
Now more than ever, this is the time to start blogging. Millions of people flock to social media and travel blogs for recommendations and travel advice. Travel blogs share everything from the best destinations to packing lists and where to find the cheapest flights. They provide first-hand knowledge and help readers make the most out of any vacation.
If you have a passion for travel and an interest in sharing it with others, now is the time to start a travel blog.
Here’s why:
More than likely, you already have content to share.
Have you been on vacation and snapped a few photos in the past few years?
Then you have everything you need to start a travel blog. Unlike blogging about food, fashion, or business, one of the biggest benefits of travel writing is that you can use past experience (rather than having to create tons of new recipes or spend money keeping up-to-date on the most current trends).
In fact, when my husband and I started Parkchasers.com in 2015, we were only taking 1 or 2 vacations per year (and still posting 2-3 times per week). By breaking down our past trips into smaller topics we could blog consistently even when we weren’t traveling.
From a two week trip to South Africa, I was able to create months of money-making travel content after I’d already returned home!
It’s easier than ever to create an amazing website.
So many people I’ve talked to cringe at the thought of creating a blog because they aren’t tech-savvy. Thankfully, there are hundreds of resources to help you start a travel blog. Some guides can get you up and started writing in under 20 minutes.
To date, I’ve built and worked on 5 different blogs. Every single time I’ve used WordPress (affiliate link), a free platform allowing visitors to build and start a profitable blog in minutes. WordPress advertises that it powers more than 35% of all websites–in part because it’s easy to use even with limited tech experience. As someone who loves to focus on writing and traveling–and not on writing lines of code, I stand by WordPress.
It’s easier than ever to find readers for your travel blog.
I remember the first few posts that I wrote on my food blog way back in 2010. I’d pour my heart into a blog post, hit publish, and then wait.
And wait.
And wait.
I’d get so excited about a handful of views (only to find out they were my husband and my mom.) Fast-forward to today, and now it’s a completely different story. Social media has changed blogging forever and given writers access to millions of readers in a few clicks.
Don’t really know much about Facebook, Instagram or Pinterest? Prefer to spend your time writing rather than learning about all the different platforms. No worries. There are tools you can use for that also.
If one of the reasons holding you back from the start of your travel blog is you’re not sure who would read it, don’t worry. Write consistently about your passion and the readers will come.
You can make money travel blogging.
Okay, so you knew it would be here somewhere. This wouldn’t be a post about why you should start a travel blog unless we talked about money. And why shouldn’t we?
Everywhere you look online there are tools, webinars, and e-courses to help you build a profitable online blog or business. All of these resources exist because right now. This minute. It’s possible to earn an income from your travel blog. It probably won’t be overnight, and I promise it will take some grit. But it is still possible.
How?
Have you seen those tiny words marked “affiliate link” around here? These two small words lead up to big income for bloggers. Travel bloggers also have the option to sell products online, including itineraries, e-books, and print-quality photos of their favorite destinations.
I recommend checking out Problogger.com, one of the resources I’ve used over and over again to get successful websites off the ground.
Help others share the same passion you have.
Most importantly, I hope if you’re considering starting a travel blog, that it’s because you have a passion for seeing the world and sharing it with others. Traveling brings so much joy in the uncertain world we live in. Why not share that joy with others. Share what you know about the places you loved visiting. Help others experience the same.
Great content! Super high-quality! Keep it up! 🙂
